An uncontrolled bushfire poses a potential threat to lives and homes in the city of York in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt region.

An emergency alert has been issued for people in the southern part of the city, 97km east of Perth, after the fire was reported just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Residents unwilling to actively defend their homes should leave while the path is clear, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.
