This brings us to the end of our coverage of the first test between India and New Zealand in Kanpur. The caravan moves to the western part of the country, with Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosting the second and final test in four days. It was a test that befitted the two finalists of the first test world championship, as the two sides fought body and soul on the last day to the last ball and finally shared the booty for this game.

We hope you will liked our live coverage of the game. At the moment this is Amit Banerjee’s departure.

Iyer: It’s a great feeling, but if we had won the game it could have been the icing on the cake. The wicket was still intact. My mindset was just to play the sessions. People say I’m very flamboyant and I don’t control my instincts, but this time I decided to play for the team. It really helped, as did Ashwin, Jadeja and Saha. I’m really proud of the way we turned things around. I am very satisfied with the overall performance of the team. There is always pressure. They got off to a great start, played two sessions very positively. When we sniffed once, we saw this as a moment to attack and made the most of the situation.

Ajinkya Rahane, captain of India: Not really. I tried my best. They played very well throughout the game. But I loved the way we got back. We wanted to get this partnership going, we quickly lost four or five wickets. We wanted to end up bowling five or six overs. I don’t think we would have done anything differently. It was about the light. As an outfield player, you want to throw more overs. This is not the case as a batting team. It was all about spinning the bowlers and they were bowling really well. First of all, I’m really excited for Shreyas. The way he worked on his game, his record in first class cricket is really good. Virat is obviously coming in the next game and we’ll have to wait and see. I will not comment.

Kane Williamson, New Zealand captain: As we saw in this test, it was an eye-catcher. The Indian side is an impressive one, and they have been on top for the most part. We just held out until the end. Given their high quality bowling attack, we knew it was a lot of hard work. Many great experiences today. Really good experience today. We saw the emotions of a really good friendly match. Overall, it was a great game. The two fast bowlers we played were outstanding for us. Has kept us in the game for a long time. Also the way the guys adapted with the racket. But you know that we will reach Mumbai on a different surface and prepare accordingly.

“We kept things under control and bowled in good areas. In the last session there was always light and we expected it. We thought we could do the job and got together well. (After surpassing bhajji) I know these are milestones that are constantly being watched. It’s wonderful. It’s the memories that count, and I want to have some special memories in the next three to four overs. Four overs. Tell just one story. Anyone can defend these days. Getting these tailenders is no longer that easy, “says Ravichandran Ashwin in a chat after the game.
