EM – Jürgen Klopp’s analysis of Liverpool’s victory over Leeds

Jurgen Klopp was impressed with the way Liverpool put their game plan to a “convincing” 3-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday.

The Reds scored 10 out of a possible 12 this season when they returned to the Premier League on Elland Road. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane secured the victory for the guests.

Klopp analyzed the performance of his team at his post-game press conference and believed that even clearer opportunities could have been created, but were made safe by Liverpool Overall performance encouraged in beating a hard-supported home team.

“We did well,” said the manager. “We defended them really bravely, we defended them in the right rooms and that’s obviously how it is: offensive players can get the ball if you let the offensive players pass.

” It was our idea to [Kalvin] Phillips omitting what is important; to cut out the passes they usually want to play as they want to find it in the middle. It took a little off their game schedule or whatever.

“In our case, I think we had a lot of moments where we won the ball and then we were obviously [in] a pretty big one Formation that we have possession of the ball, and we made good use of the space to set up our own attacks.

“But as I said, it doesn’t work without intensity, it’s not a game that can be played as well as Chess – you have to throw everything on the court to get small advantages. We did that. What I liked most about the game is that we were really ready – for the atmosphere today, the intensity that Leeds demands. It’s a really difficult place and we did it really well.

“We played here last year and now for the third time, that was of course the most convincing performance so far. Last year we won at home, yes, it was more spectacular. And an away game here with no spectators is a completely different matter, it was 1-1, it wasn’t nearly as good as it is today.

The success in Yorkshire meant the Reds kept up with the early Premier League leaders and joined Manchester United and Chelsea at the summit.

When asked how close his squad is to consistently reproducing the form that brought Liverpool the 2019-20 title, Klopp said: “I don’t care about form that we had when we won the title, I’m interested in the best possible. ” Form we can have now and I don’t even know.

“Of course we played a really good game today, but it was necessary. To play a little worse, a little less well, Leeds will punish you. You saw that. I think after two minutes there were already two or three counterattacks on both sidelines, box-to-box runs, that was the prospect of the game. It was clear that it was going to be really tough.

“But then we pressed exceptionally well, so we won a lot of balls, so we could play from there. It was far from perfect, of course; We scored nice goals, but we should have had clearer chances.

“We had a lot of placements – 30, I heard – but we should have had clearer chances. But that’s not a problem, today 3-0 is awesome. But we know we have room for improvement and we have to do that. “
