Sunday’s Ligue 1 game between Lyon and Marseille was abandoned almost two hours after the interruption when Dimitri Payet was hit by a water bottle thrown out of the crowd.

Payet had to be treated after being in was hit in the side of the head on the fifth minute as he prepared for a corner, prompting both teams to return to the locker rooms.

It was the latest in a series of incidents that saw French football in this Season and confusion reigned after an initial decision was made to restart play after a 90-minute delay.

“Contrary to the announcement, the referee decided not to restart the game due to the safety of Player was not guaranteed, “said the stadium announcer.

Lyon players initially came back to warm up after it was announced that the game would be restarted e, but soon they returned to the tunnel with no sign of their opponents.

Benin’s striker Steve Mounie opened the goal in the third minute with a header from a deflected cross from Jeremy Le Douaron.

Brest captain Brendan Chardonnet doubled up took the lead in 13th place by deflecting his back in a corner.

Romain Faivre scored his fifth goal of the season with a shot from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 in the 33rd round.

Le Douaron unequivocally established the result in 69th place by fending off Kevin Danso to shoot into the top corner.

Lens had dropped to 10 in the 74th game when substitute Arnaud Kalimuendo for a tackle from behind was sent off against Ronael Pierre-Gabriel.

Brest haven’t won any of their first 11 games this season but recently turned a corner to beat Monaco and Lorient.

Angers moved up to sixth place by he Lorient with an El Thomas Mangani beat his penalty kick 1-0 in 67th position.
