Madlos and Dela Peña were killed in an encounter with the military on October 31. According to the protocol, before removing the remains of the killed, arrested, or surrendered rebels, they must first undergo an RT-PCR test by the Philippine Red Cross, which performed the RT-PCR tests on the two remains. “The remains of Madlos and Dela Peña were discovered last night by decision of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) and in accordance with the existing Covid-19 protocols,” said Brawner. “It is our sincere wish that the remains are buried and that families can mourn their loved ones. After all, as enemies of the state, they are Filipinos themselves and deserve to have decent burials. On the other hand, I call on the remaining CTG members (communist terrorist group) to finally recognize the futility of their armed struggle and to lay down their weapons. In the meantime, we will continue to intensify and relentlessly implement our focused military operations to track down the remains of the Ka Oris group, ”he added. Madlos was the commander of the NPA’s National Operations Command and spokesman for the National Democratic Front in Mindanao. He has been charged with murder, multiple murders with double frustrated murder, robbery with double murder, and property damage. The CPP previously refuted claims by the military that Madlos and his companion were killed in a gun battle. The group said they were ambushed while the two were on their way to a hospital for medical help. However, the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP) rejected the CPP’s claim and upheld their commitment to comply with international humanitarian law. (SunStar Philippines)
