EM – Marc Leishman punches again as he, Jason Day, stretch the QBE shootout lead

NAPLES, Fla. – Marc Leishman clinched the second straight day for Eagle as he and Jason Day scored an 8-under 64 in the modified alternate shot format on Saturday to build a three-shot lead in the QBE shootout .

Leishman made an eagle on the 10th hole during the first round scramble. This time he punched in from 96 yards on the seventh par 4 hole to put the Australian duo in command of the unofficial event at Tiburon Golf Club.

Defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar were at the Greg Norman- Charity event still in action for a fourth title. They had a 66 and were shared with the teams of Jason Kokrak and Kevin Na and Billy Horschel and Sam Burns in second place.

In the modified alternate stroke, both players hit tees and then picked the best one and switched from there. Leishman and Day had six birdies that matched Leishman’s hole shot for the eagle. They were under 120 at 24. Lexi Thompson, the only LPGA Tour player in the field, teamed up with Bubba Watson to score a 66 to fall five strokes back. All but one of the 12 teams scored points in the 1960s, with the exception of Georgia alumni Brian Harman and Hudson Swafford, who had a 71 and finished last.

Well and Kokrak started the second nine with two bogeys , rare in this format, but that was offset by her 10 birdies for a 64 to stay in the hunt.

Jason Day and Marc Leishman had 12 birdies, two Eagles and landed one shot behind the record for the scramble format.

Bubba Wastons Drive in 13th place would ricochet off a fan and ricochet off an ace, and Teammate Lexi Thompson almost had an ace too.
