Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell hit an unbeaten 154 from 64 balls to record the highest single point tally in Big Bash League (BBL) history and lead the Melbourne Stars to a record 2020 overall on Wednesday.
p> Maxwell, 33, brought a dead rubber to life by hitting 22 fours and four sixes at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Marcus Stoinis played with a 75 unbeaten run as the Stars went 273-2 on aggregate – the tallest by a T20 franchise and third tallest ever in the game’s shortest format.
“It was definitely a lot of fun. It helps you play with the ultimate freedom when you know the season is over for your team so you can put your ears back and really get going,” said Maxwell.
“I was glad Stoinis came in and started clearing the ropes. That gave me time to relax on the other end.”
The Stars failed to qualify for the playoffs and Wednesday’s game was the final game of the regular season.
