After 20 years of pioneering a neuroscience-based mental health curriculum used by 7 million students, Goldie Hawn’s MindUP is scaling the digital platform to address widespread anxiety, stress, aggression, depression and suicide in children and to address young adults.
MindUP for Life, the Goldie Hawn Foundation’s signature program, today announced the launch of MindUP for Life Digital – an interactive online learning platform bringing MindUP’s evidence-based mental fitness program to children, families, educators, leaders and adults across the country. The MindUP program is now accessible online to parents, teachers and children around the world. It was designed with the help of the best educators and neuroscientists in the field to provide children with the knowledge and tools to manage stress, regulate emotions, and face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 21st century with optimism, resilience, and compassion
“Be it social media, peer pressure, or the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, children of this generation are facing the greatest mental health challenges in human history,” said MindUP Founder and CEO Goldie Hawn. “We have a full-blown national emergency ahead of us, and if we don’t prioritize mental fitness, our children will continue to suffer. That’s why we’re making MindUP for Life available online to any parent or teacher who wants their children to be equipped with the right tools to manage stress and regulate emotions. As a teenager, I learned all too well the struggles with mental health. If I hadn’t worked with professionals to find tools to manage stress and depression, I might not be here today. I want to make sure all young people have access to these tools as they navigate this new normal,” she added.
MindUP for Life Digital memberships are available to anyone interested in the MindUP program . MindUP will offer free and paid memberships for individuals, schools, groups and districts. Scholarships are available to individuals, schools, and districts in need of financial assistance.
“It’s not just us sounding the alarm. From the Surgeon General to the CDC to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there is broad consensus that the pandemic has exacerbated an adolescent mental health crisis and turned it into a national emergency,” said Dr. Kim Schonert-Reichl, MindUP Research Advisor and NoVo Foundation Endowed Chair in Social and Emotional Learning at the University of Illinois Department of Psychology at Chicago. “We have been in this field for two decades, collaborating with the best educators and scientists in the world. To date, 178,500 educators have been trained in our program and 7 million children in 16 different countries have been part of our curriculum. Multiple research studies have shown that our students have improved their academic performance, reduced depression and aggression, and increased happiness. It’s time to make MindUP available to everyone.”
