EM – Police officers take drastic measures to thwart protests


Victoria Police will take an extraordinary step to prevent people from entering the city for an anti-lockdown rally.

The public transport network will be temporarily shut down on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., Chief Commissioner Shane Patton announced on Wednesday.

Mr Patton said the police and the Health officials believe the proposed protest could be a potential “superspreader event” that puts people at risk of covid and urged people not to participate.

Mr Patton said the authorities “did not prompt that decision taken lightly ”and would impose fines of $ 5,500 on those entering the city and $ 1,800 on those outside their 3-mile zone.
