November 17 (UPI) – Queen Elizabeth performed publicly at Windsor Castle on Wednesday for her first personal engagement after missing the memorial service over the weekend for a sprained back.

The 95-year-old monarch met with General Sir Nick Carter, who is preparing to leave his role as Chief of Defense later this month.

The Queen stood and smiled with Carter in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle. She also videotaped the commanding officer of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards on Wednesday.

Queen Elizabeth was last seen publicly on October 19 holding a reception for the Global Investment Summit at Windsor Castle.

The next day, she stayed overnight in King Edward VII Hospital for the first time in eight years with an unspecified illness. Doctors gave her a month’s rest.

“When you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be,” said the Prince of Wales. “At 73 it’s bad enough.”
