Louise Quinn scored the winning goal when the Republic of Ireland beat Australia 3-2 in a lively women’s international match in Dublin.
The hosts took the lead through an own goal by goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, that of Mary Fowler Quinn headed Vera Pauw’s team with a header four minutes into the second half at Tallaght Stadium.
The Dublin venue welcomed fans to an international match for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic the women.
Tuesday night’s win was a much-needed moral boost for the republic, which had been on a losing streak for seven games.
