Taylor Swift, mistress of Easter Eggs, has outdone herself with a cryptic new crossword puzzle , which is meant to address the upcoming release of their re-recorded version of Red.

As any Swiftie worth their money will know, the pop star has a long history of scattering clues like breadcrumbs. Her album releases are littered with references to her back catalog and to her personal life, lines and pictures that build up a universe rich in discovery. For example, do you remember your album again and again, a real treasure trove of glittering threads? It took Music Junkee writer Jemima Skelley an entire article to pick up some of the references, and she didn’t even exhaust it.

But now Swift has taken things to the next level and released a short video of an animated safe to tease the latest entry on her project by scouring the back catalog.

And Swift is fully aware of what she’s doing – how she tests and challenges her fan base. The video’s caption makes this clear, as Swift “cackles insanely” as she gives her followers some very tricky homework.

Watch the video first, then we’ll decipher it together (with the help of some particularly dedicated Swifties, of course ).

Got it? If you don’t, don’t worry – this thing is designed to be easy to interpret.

First things first: Notice the background color? Yes, that deep chestnut tone is the first sign that this is a teaser for red, a subtle hat tip on the color that made the pop star’s name.

Then there’s this background music, an audio snippet that sounds suspiciously like “Better Man” when played backwards.

Oh, and then there’s the text that comes out of the safe. The Swifties quickly realized that when the words were arranged in a grid they resembled a crossword puzzle and were busy solving it in a matter of seconds.

Biggest takeaway? That guest appearance by Phoebe Bridgers and the promise of a ten minute version of “All Too Well”. Looks like Taylor Swift is taking her re-recording game to the next level.

Oh, and it looks like this game isn’t over either, as Swift posted a new hint on her Twitter Account.
