It appears that the legal team, which represents 22 women accused of sexual misconduct by Texas quarterback Deshaun Watson, is more willing to discuss a settlement than originally thought.
Text messages and a tape show that A member of Attorney Tony Buzbee’s team representing the women reached out to Watson’s defense to discuss « drafting » between the parties, according to ESPN.
The report came after Buzbee denied a claim made by Watson defense attorney Rusty Hardin who said Buzzbee had asked for a deal.
« Contrary to what Mr. Rusty says, we never reached out to them to settle down, » Buzbee said on Instagram.
Buzbee told ESPN that he was « the only one in this company with the power to discuss the settlement. »
The two attorneys have been walking back and forth on social media since the allegations began in March.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said two weeks ago during the draft that the league is closely following developments in the case against Watson and is conducting its own investigation into the policy of personal conduct.
Buzbee previously said four of Watson’s accusers would have met with the league. Watson has not met with the league on the matter, a source told ESPN.
