Kyrie Irving missed Wednesday’s game against San Antonio with a bruised face but the injury is not expected to be serious and the Nets are hoping the all-star point guard will be back by the weekend will.
« Fortunately, Kyrie’s scans were clear, » said coach Steve Nash. “No concussion, nothing on the scans. Just as a precaution. I will not go [vs. the spurs]. «
Irving sustained the injury slapping an elbow in the face of Nikola Vucevic in the third quarter of Tuesday’s win in Chicago. He is expected to be fit and possibly to face the Bulls and Cavaliers this weekend has much-needed time in court with Kevin Durant and James Harden.
« He’s cleared to play, » said Nash. « So it depends on how comfortable he plays, and if they have that time together, it would be it great. If they don’t, don’t do it. «
The Big 3 didn’t spend a lot of time together – just 186 minutes together over seven games all season. They haven’t had any time together since winning at Golden State on February 13th.
Joe Harris (left hip pain) also missed Wednesday’s game after playing through the injury and the nets eventually settled on him.
« Joe, he was hit a few games ago and it worked « Nothing long-term. Nothing to hold him back longer. But go to rest [vs. San Antonio] and try to get over it. »
Durant and Blake Griffin were available Wednesday, though they played in Chicago and the Nets on Tuesday to protect them from back to back.
« Kevin wants to play and get his rhythm and continue to do his best and then just feel good when he makes the playoffs goes « said Nash. « So they’re trying to strike the balance between the risk and where they feel safest for the playoffs.
» So, it’s one of those things that I take a leap of faith in what Makes her feel best and makes her feel confident and prepared in rhythm and at the same time not risking anything. «
James, Durant, Griffin, Bruce Brown and Landry Shamet set Brooklyn’s team record as the 36th different starting line-ups of the season. James is the 19th network to start this season, another franchise record.
With James’ second and final 10-day contract soon expiring, the Nets are likely to be inclined to convert his contract to get him into the playoffs can play.
« I can’t confirm anything. The front office will sit with him [Wednesday evening] or [Thursday]. But we were really happy with Mike, so I could imagine he will be with us, ”said Nash. « I can’t confirm anything at the moment and these decisions will be made either [Wednesday] night or [Thursday]. But like I said, we were very happy with Mike and what he brought to the team. »
