Thiruvananthapuram: In the last few days, there have been big rumors about who will be the ministers from the CPM in the second Pinarayi government. From the outset, there were indications that all except Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would be newcomers to the new cabinet. But then came the news that KK Shailaja, the internationally acclaimed health minister, might be included in the cabinet. But according to the latest indications, KK Shailaja has also been removed from the ministry.
The CPM was able to strictly enforce the term system even during the candidate phase of the Assembly elections. Prominent Thomas Isaac and G Sudhakaran withdrew from the competition after sticking to the decision not to give concessions to anyone. Now the CPM is following the same strict line for the ministerial post.
It was hoped that only KK Shailaja would get a waiver when all the newcomers were included. But the CPM came to the decisive decision not to give concessions only to Shailaja. Only seven members of the 88-member CPM state committee have suggested that KK Shailaja should continue.
KK Shailaja is a leader who has done a great job as a minister. KK Shailaja has gained international attention through his NPA and Kovid defense activities. However, Shailaja was denied the opportunity as the party was adamant that everyone should be treated equally, with justice and a common decision in the organizational structure.
The CPM has released an official press release on the ministers. The state committee has appointed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the leader of the parliamentary party.
