Ebene Magazine – Twins lose fourth place in a row 3-2 to Red Sox in their first double header game

The twins dropped their doubles first game on Wednesday and fell on their fourth consecutive loss.

Starting pitcher Kenta Maeda gave up three runs in the second inning – although only one deserved it – when the Twins lost 3-2 at Target Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Maeda gave up four hits that inning, and the mistake was his own in airmailing a throw while trying to catch a runner on third base. The Red Sox finished game 3 for 18 with runners in goal position, leaving 12 but doing enough for their eighth straight win.

The twins got their only run in the third inning, the reward for a good shot from Jorge Polanco. The second baseman littered five fields and counted before shooting a single field into midfield to bring Ryan Jeffers and JT Riddle home. Riddle was added to the list of twins on Wednesday morning after shortstop Andrelton Simmons tested positive for COVID-19.

The twins were in the game to the end, and reliever Brandon Waddell threw himself out of a base-laden jam in the seventh. They ended the game with Jake Cave on second base when Red Sox left outfield Alex Verdugo and Luis Arraez robbed a hit.

Before the game, the twins also called Alex Kirilloff as the 27th man for their double header. Kirilloff, who made his Wild Card Series debut last year, went 0-2 in the first game on Wednesday.

José Berríos will start the second game of the double header and third baseman Josh Donaldson is expected to play with a thigh strain in his first game since leaving the Twins’ opening game on April 1st.
