Two men have died in various incidents after their bodies were pulled unconscious from the beaches in northern New South Wales on Sunday.
Just before 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2021 , emergency services were called to a beach at a campsite near Illaroo Road in Minnie Water, east of Grafton, after a surfer was reportedly found unconscious in the water.
Coffs / Clarence Police Department officers took off with paramedics NSW Ambulance and Westpac Rescue Helicopter where they found a 48-year-old man assisted by others in the surf after he was found unconscious.
The paramedic on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was thrown into the surf where the Man was recovered and taken back to the helicopter. However, after the man was flown to waiting paramedics by NSW Ambulance on the headland, he did not respond to resuscitation efforts and was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
Coffs / Clarence Police District officers have spoken to witnesses and are preparing a report Create coroner’s notice.
In a separate incident shortly after 4 p.m. that same day, emergency services were called to Killick Beach in Hat Head on the central north coast after reports of a surfer failing to be pulled out of the water. </ Other surfers and people on the beach started CPR until police and paramedics arrived. However, the 64-year-old man could not be resuscitated and died on the scene. It is not certain whether the man was dragged out of the surf or had a medical episode on the beach.
Mid North Coast Police Department officers will prepare a report for the information of the coroner.
