WHITE HORSE –
The Yukon government says travelers who can show they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not need to self-isolate when entering the area from May 25th.

Prime Minister Sandy Silver says the high vaccination rate in the area is also one reason the government plans to restore bars and restaurants to full capacity at the same time.

By Monday, 74 percent of Yukoners had received a first dose of vaccine, while 65 percent had received a second.

According to Silver, the area is still working on how vaccination status will be confirmed for those entering the Yukon.

Dr. Brendan Hanley, chief medical officer, says the relaxation of post-travel rules will apply to both Yukoners and travelers from other parts of Canada.

Logistically, however, this will likely apply to Yukoners first, as it will be easier to put in place a system to check vaccination status.
