One or two timely messages to be found amid the carnage is Eshom and Ian Nelms’ Fatman, a potential dark comedy trying to distort Christmas as well as the upsurge in violence seen in our youth.. Clear goals but, with our community’s interest for 20 seconds, it wouldn’t hurt to explore them again. You’ll have to look elsewhere for any kind of smart scrutiny of these issues as the brothers use them as an excuse to build a chaos-driven parody that, although it has moments, never steps in..

In many ways, the movie is a perfect fit for 2020 – the world is in shambles, the top is falling, the top falls, normality has become a strange word used to describe a way of life that is steadily drifting from our collective memory.. So, a movie about a hitman hired by a bastard to kill an angry Santa Claus seems to be a perfect fit.. Mel Gibson is a fat, bitter man, disillusioned with the way the holiday season has been wiped out thanks to rampant consumerism and public greed.. Although he may have cut some kids off their slump in the past, he has no problem letting those who don’t stick to the steps know they’re on the hooligan’s list.. His charcoal distribution has grown dramatically, and rich little poor child Billy Weinan (Hearstfield Chance) does not accept his reception on Christmas morning.. Textbook bully, uses money from his grandmother’s account to hire a skinny man (Walton Goggins), a killer who has his own problems and takes that contract with passion. It looks like he has a hit on settling for Chris Kringel.

Tone is very important when doing a parody, and let’s just say Nilmes is deaf in this section. Their hypothesis is promising, but their implementation is largely wrong. The most obvious mistake is the filmmakers’ type of violence, and an unjustified approach rather than an overrated, burlesque style would have been more appropriate.. Yes, the Skinny Man is a killer, but we see him practice his trade every so often when a little bit of fictional writing makes the character achieve their goals without always having to eliminate every Tom, Dick, and Harry in their way.. As the body count rises, any potential fun the movie might have is eliminated.

The only thing that makes this exercise bearable is the presence of Gibson and Jogens. The two veterans do everything they can to bring a sense of flair to the story, but the chips are stacked against them.Think what you’re going to do about Gibson, his on-screen presence is undeniable and he’s using him so well. Be it fun or rude, there is a twinkle in the actor’s eye, while Marianne Jean-Baptiste was cast as the lady.. Close is inspiring. Goggins doesn’t work either, but it’s not because of a lack of trying. There simply isn’t enough in the script to work with him and once his character is with St. Nick is revealed, proving to be as thin as a tissue paper.

The government-backed angle to Klaus’ operation to keep the economy wobbling is inspired by the scenes in which we see hundreds of elves working on a covert army project, where the lead general is envied for their steadfast commitment and work ethic.. . However clever moments like this are so few and far between, Nelms is more comfortable blasting things out than witty social comments, and in the end, Fatman proves it’s just bloody nonsense..
