EbeneNews – UA – Labuschagne’s objective to stay one step ahead

The early morning IPL visualization helps Marnus Labuschagne prepare for the summer test, but the Queenslander expects to get a taste of what’s to come this weekend

Labuschagne came from the clouds to finish as the most prolific test drummer in the world in 2019 and he sits at No3 in the ranking

He will be the big wicket for a Bulls side that also includes Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja and potentially Matt Renshaw in middle order when their Sheffield Shield campaign kicks off in Adelaide against Tasmania on Saturday

They meet up with a Tigers team to brag about top rookie Peter Siddle alongside Jackson Bird, Riley Meredith, Sam Rainbird, Nathan Ellis and Gabe Bell in a formidable fast bowling attack

Labuschagne, 26, expects Indian bowlers to do their homework and, with the Summer Test in mind, admits he paid special attention to their form in IPL

But after making his Shield debut six years ago, he says playing his Aussie teammates will help him stay one step ahead

« It’s about getting better and really trying to think about how they’re going to attack me and how I’m going to counter that, » he says

« Basically the same things will work, but there will be new plans, so whatever they are it’s important that you stay ahead of the game

« Australian national teams have a better idea than some internationals so that’s where the challenge starts this weekend and I love the competition »

A strong campaign last season will likely see Bryce Street retain his place atop the Bulls’ order with test-holder Joe Burns, leaving former Australian opener Matthew Renshaw to fight for a place in the middle order

Labuschagne expects his good pal Renshaw, who made his Australian debut in 2016 at the age of 20, will adjust after being sidelined from the squad last season

« We’re pretty close, we talk all the time and he’s done well, he looks really good and we know how really good he is, » Labuschagne said

« When you’re having a little trouble, there’s probably no one else you want to see come out at No5, that’s okay there could be some really good things going for him this summer »
