Spain’s defender Diego Llorente has tested negative for COVID-19, the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) announced on Thursday, just days after a positive test raised fears of infection in the Spanish European Championship squad.
The announcement came when Spain was preparing to vaccinate its entire European Championship squad just before the start of the tournament, which runs from Friday to July 11th.
This means that Spain now only has one infected player, his captain Sergio Busquets, who tested positive on Sunday.
« The confirmatory PCR tests performed on Wednesday June 9th were negative … suggesting that (Llorente’s Tuesday result) was a false positive, » the RFEF said.
