An episode of Four Corners examining Scott Morrison’s alleged ties to a supporter of a far-right conspiracy group will air Monday.

The upcoming episode has become a lightning rod for criticism from the government after the prime minister stifled « deeply abusive » attempts to link him to QAnon.

The fringe cult claimed that a cabal of elite pedophiles had secretly driven the world out of Washington and Hollywood.

The episode was scheduled to run a week earlier, but was postponed for further editorial review by ABC director David Anderson.

Sally Neighbor, executive producer of Four Corners, tweeted a 30-second preview of the program on Friday, titled « The Great Awakening: A Family Divided by QAnon, » which revealed it would air Monday.

It will address Morrison’s alleged ties to Tim Stewart, an alleged follower of the QAnon cult.

The preview quoted an interviewee claiming that Mr Stewart « believes the world has been overtaken by satanic pedophiles » and a voiceover asking « questions about the prime minister’s old friend ».

Mr Anderson this week flatly dismissed reports that the program had been rejected and reiterated his support for the « outstanding, award-winning » Four Corners team.

The episode was delayed after being « referred to above » by Mr. Anderson, who expressed « concerns about some areas » and suggested elements that « need to be reinforced within the story ».

« It’s our process (and) I think it just makes us stronger and what we do, » he told Senate estimates on Monday.

Anderson said the program was not referred to him « with concern », revealing that it could « be on the air very well » if the Four Corners team could allay its concerns.

The PMO made no attempt to prevent the story from being broadcast, Mr Anderson confirmed.

The Four Corners team tweeted Saturday that the PMO had not responded to 20 requests for comment on the story, but Mr. Anderson confirmed that one of its staff had spoken to ABC news director Gaven Morris.

Morrison labeled attempts to tie him and his family to QAnon as « very poor », saying he had « obviously no » ties to the « dangerous » cult.

“It is also disappointing that Four Corners in their investigation would attempt to use this slander, not only against me, but also members of my own family. I just think that’s bad form, » he said earlier this month.

Government senators pressured Mr Anderson over Ms Neighbor’s social media presence.

An editorial in The Australian on Tuesday also criticized Ms Neighbor and Walkey-winning journalist Louise Milligan, accusing the pair of « overconfidence ».

« The journalist’s most dangerous enemy is bad, lazy, deceitful journalism, » it read.

But in a statement on Friday, the ABC backed the couple and labeled the allegations « serious and baseless. »

“To see The Australian using its editorial space in such a way undermines the journalistic traditions it stands for,” the statement said.

The QAnon sect has been linked to insurgents who attempted to overthrow the US government during the Capitol Hill attack in January.

The ABC declined to comment.
