It’s been 15 years since Australia’s favorite Motown men released new music, and now Human Nature is back with their new single ‘Nobody Just Like You’. The band celebrated 30 years together last November and on the same day they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. They have released 13 studio albums, 15 top 20 singles, they have sold over 2.5 million albums in Australia alone, and they currently have the longest running residency of all time in Las Vegas. Phil Burton of Human Nature has said he is leaving the group after more than 30 years with the long-running quartet.
Burton told Zodiac sign that he made « a family decision » not to join his bandmates – Toby Allen and brothers Michael and Andrew Tierney – for their upcoming stay in Las Vegas.
The 47-year-old said it was time to return to Australia with his wife and two children.
Fans of the group can take comfort in the fact that Burton will rejoin the group when they play in Australia.
« If there are opportunities to play, they will fly over here and I’ll jump back on board, and we’ll be four of us as always, » he said.
Burton said the pandemic had led him to reassess things.
“Covid has turned things into stark reality – where do you want to be? Where do you feel at home? And in Australia we felt safest as a family, » he said. « I haven’t had time to think about what I’m going to do next. »
Toby Allen said they need to rework their four-person vocal arrangements as best they can for a trio.
“We can’t pick out every song Phil sang – there are some key songs. We started throwing in some ideas,” he said. « We won’t get a sense of what it’s like to work as a trio until we’ve experienced it. »
Human Nature began their career in 1989 under the name 4 Trax at Hurlstone Agricultural High before signing a deal with Sony in 1995.
Their 1996 debut album Telling Everybody was a huge hit, earning them triple platinum status.
They became a fixture in Las Vegas in the late 2000s, doing residencies at hotels such as the Venetian and Imperial Palace, long before Brittany Spears and Celine Dion turned Las Vegas into residences.
They were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2019.
