Paris, Jun 11 (PTI) Unseeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic made a match point saver to advance to the women’s singles final of the French Open tennis tournament, where she will face Russia’s Anastasia Pavlichenkova.
Krejcikova beat 17th seed Maria Sakari of Greece 7-5, 4-6, 9-7 while Pavlichenkova defeated Tamara Zidansek of Slow Vania 7-5, 6-3 in a fiercely contested semi-final. Both these players have reached the finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
Krejcikova was at one point trailing 3-5, 30-40 in the third set. She saved a match point with a backhand volley and eventually went on to win the match. The match lasted for three hours and 17 minutes.
Krejcikova said after the match, « I’ve always wanted to be a part of a match like this. From the junior tournament itself, I wanted to play such an exciting match. What a great match where we both had chances. We both played very well but only one could win. »
