Leeds United 1 Luton Town 1 – player ratings

Leeds United suffer blow in battle to sign £35m-rated sensation, Manchester United set to announce summer signing – gossip

After a slow start, the Whites totally dominated the play against the relegation-threatened Hatters, with a half-time tactical change which saw Alioski introduced and Leeds switch to 3-4-3 causing them to totally dominate the second half.

Chief sports writer Stuart Rayner gives his verdict on how the individuals performed in a match which extended Marcelo Bielsa side’s lead at the top of the Championship to four points, but gives West Bromwich Albion the opportunity to make up ground by winning at Hillsborough on Wednesday.

Illan Meslier – little to do and could not be blamed for Harry Cornick’s brilliant finish 6

Luke Ayling – not his main job, but missed a couple of good chances late on 6

Mateusz Klich – as with his team-mates, it was just not quite happening for him 6

Jack Harrison – another good performance from the on-loan winger, his excellent 78th-minute run and cross deserved a finish Patrick Bamford could not provide 7

Helder Costa – Bielsa noted how the other side of the field (the left) was more potent 6

Patrick Bamford – again his finishing was at fault as Leeds failed to round off a good display, though he was by no means alone 6

Gaetano Berardi (for Cooper, 12) – had a penalty scare before making way at half-time 6

Ezgjan Alioski (for Berardi, 46) – made a big difference when he came on at left wing-back 8

Pablo Hernandez (for Klich, 61) – good, but could not have the same impact he made against Fulham, even overhit a couple of passes 7
