The Toronto Raptors have further secured the central position by converting the Free Agent Center Chris Boucher to 13 US dollars for 2 years. 5 million contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN.
Boucher was not drafted in 2017 and joined the Raptors 905 in the G-League in 2018. From there, the Montreal native developed his skills, was named Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, before being promoted to third string with the Raptors last season. His playing time and performances have been inconsistent, but Boucher has had several strong flashes, most notably the Raptors’ historic 30-point comeback against the Dallas Mavericks, in which he knocked down the game-winning dunk.
The Raptors lost Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka to Los Angeles at the weekend but signed Boucher and added Aron Baynes to fill the middle position next season. Boucher and Baynes are stopgap as the Raptors seek free action in 2021 and each has its own merits. Baynes is the more reliable shooter and post-back, while Boucher’s athleticism and length change the game. The two should split the minutes, although Baynes will likely begin.
Still, this is an excellent opportunity for Boucher to show off his talents as this will be the first time in his career that he has been given consistent playing time. The 27-year-old gets his first contract above the league minimum and the next step will show enough consistency to extend his career.
Boucher average 6. 6 points, 4. 5 rebounds and a block in 13 minutes per game last season.
