A 25-year-old man was shot dead in front of the luxury hotel Dream Downtown early Thursday, where rapper Busta Rhymes was spotted hours later.
Byron Morales was shot in the lower torso in front of the police at around 12:20 p.m. Hotel on West 16th Street near Ninth Avenue blown up.
The shooting occurred during an argument between Morales – who was from Brooklyn and was not a hotel guest – and another man, the police said.According to police, the suspect drove away with other men in a jeep. It was unclear whether he was a driver or a passenger.
Sources said Morales was a member of the Outlaws street gang. The police are now investigating whether the fatal shots were linked to a gang.
Hours after the shooting, rapper Busta Rhymes was spotted near the crime scene, although it was not immediately clear why he was there.
The rapper, who wore an orange and black patterned shirt, was one of several people featured in photos that gathered around 4 a.m. in the block littered with various nightclubs.
