Netflix announced during its live stream Geeked Week on Thursday that it would exclusively stream the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway (Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senkō no Hathaway).
Netflix also announced that it will start operating on Jan.
The film was previously delayed three times. The film was originally scheduled to open in Japan on July 23, but has been delayed due to COVID-19. The film was postponed from May 7th to May 21st in April and was then postponed again last month due to the extended state of emergency declared in Japan. The current state of emergency is expected to last until June 20th.
The film was originally scheduled to screen in 214 theaters, a franchise record. Some cinemas will show the film in 4D and Dolby Cinema from the opening day. Dolby Cinemas will also be showing the first 15 minutes and 53 seconds of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack before the film. The film’s limited Blu-ray Disc will hit stores on June 11th.
Shukou Murase (Ergo Proxy, Gangsta., Witch Hunter Robin, Genocidal Organ) is leading the project and Yasuyuki Mutou (Basilisk, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE: 0096, Deadman Wonderland) is writing the script. Pablo Uchida, Naoyuki Onda and Shigeki Kuhara adapt Haruhiko Mikimoto’s original character designs for animation. Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane, Seiichi Nakatani and Nobuhiko Genba adapt Yasuhiro Moriki’s mechanical designs for animation. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) composes the music.
