Year 2 and Year 3 WR Talk

Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world

The Brooklyn Nets are showing why so many expect them to win the 2021 NBA championship. After two games against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Nets are 2-0 in the East semifinal showdown, including a blowout victory in Game 2. Even more impressive is how both wins have come without the services of James Harden, who injured his hamstring one minute into the opener. While there is still plenty of basketball left to be played, it is the Bucks who have gotten off to a hot start on their home floor to take a sizable lead over the Nets after one quarter of play.

The Nets won Game 2 by nearly 40 points, and are now just two away from an Eastern Conference finals berth. They won’t have Harden again for Game 3, but that has hardly mattered to this point as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are leading the way. They are also getting plenty of help from their teammates, including Mike James, Blake Griffin and Bruce Brown. As for Milwaukee, it’s in dire need of a spark or else it will find itself in an insurmountable 3-0 hole.

The Bucks made some history already in this one. They are the only NBA team in the last 15 years to have two players score 15 points in a quarter with no other teammates scoring a point (regular season or postseason). Impressive. Or not, depending on which way you look at it.

The Nets are outscoring the Bucks 19-3 in the second quarter so far. The Bucks are going to have to find a way to get some of their other guys going. Holiday, Giannis and Middleton have all of their points.

Here’s Giannis’ 10 second violation from the line. It takes him a long time to shoot.

Bruce Brown has been a huge part of the reason that the Nets were able to get back in this game so quickly. Brown is up to 12 points and 3 rebounds.

Giannis just got a 10 second violation at the free throw line. Second time during these playoffs. He needs to speed that release up a little bit.

It took 14.5 minutes, but a third Bucks player has finally scored. Jrue Holiday is on the board, joining Giannis and Middleton.

Second quarter action is underway. The Nets need to respond before this one gets out of hand. Still a ton of basketball left to play.

One quarter of action is in the books, and the Bucks are absolutely dominating the Nets. They’re up 30-11. Crazier than that: only two players have scored for Milwaukee. Giannis and Krhis Middleton had all 30 of their points in the first quarter.

The Bucks have 30 points in the game with about 90 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Giannis and Khris Middleton have all 30 of the points. Every single one.

Giannis came out on a mission in this one. He already has 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor. He also has 6 rebounds. This is exactly what the Bucks needed from their leader. Now, he just needs to keep it up.

Milwaukee’s defense has been great early on in this game. They haven’t given Brooklyn any easy shots. Everything has been contested. As a result, the Nets started the game 3 of 14 from the field.
