New Delhi: A huge earthquake has shaken the desert state of Rajasthan. Its severity was recorded as 5.3 on the Richter scale. The damage caused by the quake is not yet known. The epicenter was reported at 5:24 a.m. GMT, according to the National Seismology Center. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The National Center for Seismology has identified Bikaner, which borders Pakistan, as the epicenter. O tweeted to this extent. The tremors are expected to continue even after that.

The quake affected Meghalaya, a northeastern state, at about the same time. The National Seismology Center said the quake struck at 2:10 a.m. just after midnight. The epicenter was reported below the Garo Hills in western Meghalaya. Its severity was recorded as 4.1 on the Richter scale. Exactly two and a half hours later, an earthquake also shook Ladakh. At 4:57 a.m., an earthquake shook the capital of Ladakh, Leh. Its severity was 3.6 on the Richter scale.
The quake affected western, northeastern and northern regions almost simultaneously. Experts believe the quake in Bikaner is serious. Although the quake struck at a depth of 110 km from the earth’s surface, its magnitude was recorded as 5.3. This is the second earthquake in Ladakh in almost a month. A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook Leh on the 28th of last month. No damage was reported at the time.
