Visual Studio Live Share Will Now Let You Share Running Apps – Thurrott.com

Visual Studio’s Live Share feature is one of my favourite features on the IDE. The feature, which is available on both Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, allows users to collaborate on code in real-time.

Using the feature, developers can co-edit files and debug them in real-time. It’s almost like working on a Word file together, except you are collaborating on code and have a lot more power.

At Build 2020, Microsoft is announcing new features for Visual Studio Live Share. The feature is now getting support for voice and text chat, which will now let users communicate without the need for a secondary app.

The main new feature, however, is the ability to share running apps. Live Share already let users share terminals within Visual Studio in the past, though you will now be able to share running apps from your machine with others. This, once again, removes the need for secondary apps for screen sharing.

Microsoft is also introducing a new preview instance type for Visual Studio Codespaces, its online platform that allows developers to get access to fully configured, cloud-hosted developer environments on the browser. The company is introducing lower pricing for all instance types as well.
